Sports Injuries We Treat
Dr. Sileo evaluates and treats the full range of sports-related orthopedic injuries. Shoulder injuries are among the most common in overhead and throwing athletes, including rotator cuff tears, labral tears, and instability — you can read more about rotator cuff pain and treatment and the broader range of shoulder conditions and treatments he offers. Knee injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears are frequent in sports with sudden stops and changes in direction; see his approach to knee conditions and procedures. He also treats hip injuries, including labral tears, along with elbow and ankle injuries, fractures, sprains, strains, and overuse conditions like tendinitis and stress fractures. Acute vs. Chronic Sports Injuries
Sports injuries generally fall into two categories, and knowing which you’re dealing with shapes treatment. An acute injury happens suddenly — a fall, a collision, or a quick pivot that causes immediate pain, swelling, or a “pop.” Sprains, fractures, and ACL tears often start this way and need prompt evaluation. A chronic injury builds gradually from repetitive strain, with symptoms that worsen over time; tendinitis and stress fractures are common examples. Whichever type you have, early evaluation helps prevent a minor problem from becoming a season-ending one.

When to See a Sports Medicine Doctor in East Setauket
Make an appointment if you have pain that persists despite rest, noticeable swelling, weakness, or an inability to bear weight or use the joint normally. These can signal damage to muscle, tendon, ligament, or bone that benefits from a professional evaluation. Treatment may range from physical therapy and activity modification to injections or, when necessary, minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery — tailored to your injury, sport, and recovery goals.
